Emaar to finish Dubai apartment towers two years late
18 March 2010
Emaar Properties, the builder of the world’s tallest skyscraper, expects to complete two Dubai apartment towers at least two years late, according to a letter sent to buyers, Bloomberg reports.
The 45-story buildings, designed by New York-based Frank Williams and Partners Architects, are now set to be finished in February 2012, according to letters sent to buyers and seen by Bloomberg. The completion was originally scheduled for this month.
“All our developments are progressing in line with Emaar’s strategy to complete all commenced projects,” the company said today in a statement. “These projects are in varying stages of development, from initial start-up phase to handover.”
The developer inaugurated the 828-meter (2,717-foot) Burj Khalifa in January and had to close the only open area, a 124th floor observation deck, after a high-speed elevator stalled.
The opening of a hotel in the tower designed by Giorgio Armani has been delayed by more than a month, said two people with knowledge of the plan. Emaar declined to comment on the hotel.
