Dubai airport records large increase in traffic
21 October 2009
Dubai airport has revealed that its passenger traffic increased by 19.5% in September, the largest monthly rise since October 2007.
September was also the fourth consecutive month of double-digit passenger growth at the hub.
Nearly 3.2 million people caught flights to and from Dubai last month, compared to almost 2.7m in September 2008.
Over 30 million travellers used the airport in the first nine months of the year, putting it on target to break the 40 million passenger mark that was projected for 2009.
Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai Airports, said: “We're seeing strong growth across all regions. We've seen a 35% increase in passengers travelling to and from Asia, a 21% rise in Western Europe and a 20% upsurge in our largest market, the Indian subcontinent.
“While many airports worldwide continue to see traffic shrink, in Dubai business is good.”
Mr Griffiths went on to say that tourists are visiting Dubai to take advantage of its warm weather, 'exciting destinations' and competitive prices for flights and hotels.
