Emirates to enable in-flight BlackBerry use

15 November 2009

Emirates passengers will soon be able to access in-flight internet services when the carrier enables use of BlackBerry on its aircraft.

Tim Clark, president of the airline, said that it is currently considering bids from two providers - OnAir and AeroMobile.

OnAir already provides internet and mobile telephony services to a number of major carriers, including British Airways, TAP Air Portugal, Qatar Airways and bmi.

Clark did not confirm an exact timeframe for the introduction of in-flight web access, but said that the service could be operational within the next few months.

The news was announced during an interview at the World Travel Market, the industry event taking place in London last week.
