Duty-free zone at Dubai airport to double its capacity
21 May 2009
The Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZ) is to double its capacity with investment of over EUR 250 million. The news was announced by the director Mohammad Ahmad Al Zarouni, who added that the expansion of the structure would allow for the allocation of over 1000 new businesses.
The current 1,500 businesses found in the duty free zone recorded a growth of between 48 and 49% in the first quarter of 2009, "a positive sign for foreign investment" which has encouraged new investment. The works, which are to begin in autumn, will extend the area by 10 square kilometres and will include six buildings and a hotel.
