6 October 2008
A project to build a futuristic building complex including a skyscraper which could reach a height of 1 km has been presented in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, where a "tower" is already under construction which at 688 metres is currently the highest building in the world.
On the eve of the opening of Cityscape, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulaim president of Dubai World presented the plan which will be headed by Nakheel, an affiliated company. The complex, "the first of its kind" includes the construction of a real city over a surface area of 270 hectares.
The icing on the cake will be "a skyscraper which will rise to one kilometre." The architects, said the Sultan, will be inspired by famous sites and monuments such as the Alhambra in Grenada, Spain, the port of Alexandria in Egypt and the Iranian city of Isfahan.
Last month the building group Emaar Properties announced that the famous Burj Dubai skyscraper under construction in Dubai has already reached 688 metres, becoming for the moment the tallest in the world.
The Burji is also part of a mega-complex which will include around 30 thousand apartments and the biggest shopping centre in the world.
